2. SENIOR CITIZENS’
BUILDING
Abhyuday Nagar is an important part of Sewri and Old
Mazgaon in my constituency. With 40 to 50 buildinds
and the adjoining Jijamata Nagar (Ambewadi), it is
a quaint little village of real Maharashtrians. The
huge Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ground had the offices of
the Maharashtra Workers’ Welfare Board, the Fine Arts
Society and the Samaj Mandir Hall. What it lacked
was a senior citizens’ chamber.
The aged people of Abhyuday Nagar needed a place
of their own where they could hold their annual meetings,
festivals and other activities. Sensing their need
in their eyes, we made efforts and today, the ‘Senior
Citizens’ House’, where our elders hold their festivities
with pomp, stands proudly in front of the Ground.
The satisfaction on their wizened faces gives me immeasurable
joy.
3. REAY ROAD CREMATORIUM
We cannot deny the fact that death is inevitable and
every one of us must leave this world sooner or later.
Though sorrowful, we must face this truth.
The Raey Road Crematorium is a terminal for the last
journey of the departed. I wished to build a modern
electric crematorium having all the necessary facilities
for the bereaved family members and others who accompany
the dear departed on their last journey.
Accordingly, the Raey Road Crematorium was renovated
and beautified with a garden, and dedicated to the
public at the hands of the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner
Shri Jairaj Phatak
